We asked our very gracious hotel owners for a suggestion on where go for a hike in Noto and they recommended Laghetti Principali in Cava Grande. She told us that when we got there it would be ‘closed’ but to ignore the signs - she assured us that there would be other people entering and it would be worth the adventure. So we ventured out and hoped for the best.
As promised, once we found it, we had to climb a over a locked fence, past the Chiuso sign to descend down the mountain. It was boiling hot out and the hike down took about 45 minutes but once we got to the bottom, we were greeted with a waterfall going into a beautiful lake and large rocks to lay out on. We brought our own towels and some paninis to enjoy a picnic and then took a dip the lake. The water was cold but so refreshing, we didn’t want to leave!
When the sun started to go down, we hiked back up which was pretty brutal but our hotel’s owner was certainly right, it was totally worth it!
