That's American Born Chinese. Since college and moving to San Francisco, I have really been in touch with my Chinese heritage. The Chinese population in the Bay Area is, shall we say, dominating? And there's no way around learning about my culture. I wish I paid more attention in Chinese school (then I'd truly be fluent in Cantonese) and I could definitely use some lessons in a Chinese kitchen. However, as I grow older, I have been learning so much more about where I came from. The first day of Chinese New Year is officially today and it's kind of a big deal. In our family, Chinese New Year means getting together, having a humungous meal, handing out/receiving red envelope money and giving thanks for what we have (it's kind of like Thanksgiving but no turkey). It also means just being together and appreciating each other. I'm looking forward to spending more time with my family and for the big parade in San Francisco on February 15th. Happy Chinese New Year everyone!
